UPDATE ON PUBLIC MEETING ON LOCAL CRIME & ASB

Following the successful public meeting last week, myself and Cllr Liz Harvey have had further discussions with the police and council to ensure we turn words into action!

So I'm pleased to be able to share below the outline of the new policing plan to ensure we get to grips with the wave of anti-social behaviour and make our town feel safe again! Thanks to everyone who has worked with us to raise this matter up the political agenda and secure the extra resources. Also to those taking part in community projects initiated at the Kings Hall, and to all of you now reporting crime and ASB through the official channels🙌

The new policing plan:

- More high visibility patrolling at key times in the key locations around the town

- Wider use of section 34 dispersal powers and the enforcement of them using the additional resources which have now been allocated to Herne Bay

 - Issuing Community Protection Notices against repeat ASB offenders to restrict behaviours such as loitering, harassment or vandalism

 - Working with other authorities to withhold benefits and reviewing property ownership/tenancies where criminality is linked to certain addresses

 - Extra stop searches where appropriate24/7 patrolling with a double crewed response car

 - Conducting drugs warrants on addresses associated with the supply of controlled drugs

 - Regular checks on those already arrested who have strict bail conditions while awaiting trial

 - Partnering with local residents and community groups to help prevent crime and to better report it when it occurs.

There will be several phases to this operation and we are still in the first phase, so much more to come. We do expect the community to see a real positive impact over the summer from this additional policing resource and activity.

My final point is that the above plan reflects the police activity. In addition to this, the other stakeholders in the Community Safety Partnership, such as both the councils, our schools and local NHS, are also stepping up their actions. We will report on those activities - which include a lot of preventative measures to help divert young people away from ASB - in due course. But I hope this is a useful report to show progress in the meantime.
