Dear Residents,
I hope you’ve been able to get outside to enjoy the recent sunny weather. And thanks for taking a break to spend 5 minutes reading my latest community news below!
Kent County Council Election
Postal votes for the Kent County Council election will be landing in Herne Bay this week, ahead of the 1st May poll. While the world feels like a very uncertain place right now, and national politics is messy too, our local election in Herne Bay is an important decision about who will represent you to get things done for the town and help you out when you need support.
If you live in the Herne Bay East constituency, I hope that whatever your views on national politics, you will vote for me as a proactive and positive local leader - someone visible who gets things done for the community. And certainly, do check out all the candidates and what they have been saying and doing for Herne Bay ahead of your decision. (Please visit my website to read about my local projects and priorities).
Upgrades at Blacksole Bridge and the Sea Street Roundabout
Speaking of priorities, one of mine is improving the condition of our roads and pavements, to make it easier and safer to get about the Bay.
Highway improvement works take many forms, none more so than the recent projects at Blacksole Bridge and the Sea Street roundabout. On the former, it required a great deal of persistence to finally get this much-needed road resurfacing agreed between the Council, Network Rail and South East Water. Judging by the very positive feedback I’ve received from local residents, people are happy with the final outcome.
Similarly, the upgrade works to Sea Street have been well received. The roundabout is a gateway into Herne Bay and the repainting, replanting and landscaping works will give visitors a warm welcome to our seaside town! Thank you to the two teams of volunteers (including Herne Bay In Bloom) who worked alongside my Kent County Council colleagues on the first set of upgrades. More to come on this topic : )
Kings Hall set for £2m investment
I strongly believe we need to protect the town’s heritage assets for locals and visitors to enjoy, so I’m delighted that the council will be investing £2m in renovating the Kings Hall in the next financial year. It certainly needs some attention to bring it up to standard as an event space, so I look forward to channelling your feedback into the future plans as they are finalised in the months ahead.
Coming on the back of other recent investments in the library, train station, park and bandstand, I hope you feel like me that we are going in the right direction. As per the famous quote on politics, ‘you can’t please all of the people all of the time’, but I believe I have been able to please most of the people most of the time!
Hope to see you in town soon,
Dan
