Resolving Furzedown residents' problems

Dan Watkins and the Furzedown Conservative Action Team have been out and about in the ward for the past few weekends in response to issues raised to them by local residents and businesses. The issues, many of them long-standing, have been raised during the many canvassing and leafleting sessions that India Brummitt, Greg Munro and Tracy Scott have been running with Dan in Furzedown.

Campaign Success for Trafalgar Arms Pub in Tooting

The Trafalgar Arms has been added to Wandsworth Council’s register of Community Assets following a campaign led by Dan Watkins, Tooting resident and local Conservative Parliamentary Candidate. TheTrafalgar Arms, on Tooting High Street, is a historic and popular pub used by local residents and community groups, but in July was bought by a property developer and immediately closed.

Furzedown Conservatives Support Mitcham Lane Traders

For several years the Mitcham Lane shopping parade in Furzedown has suffered from low shopper footfall and high vacancy rates. Recently Sainsbury’s has made an application to open a new store on the former Gig Sounds site, providing both an opportunity and a threat to the existing community of shop-keepers.

Welfare changes helping Wandsworth families

Government welfare reforms, introduced to restore fairness to the welfare system, are already showing signs of success in Wandsworth. Two policies in particular - the benefit cap and the ending of the Spare Room Subsidy - are responsible for many out-of-work households making the decision to return to work. The policies are very new, but already 165 families affected by the Spare Room Subsidy changes in Wandsworth have come off housing benefit altogether and gone into work.

Dan Watkins launches ‘Love your Local’ campaign

EARLSFIELD entrepreneur and Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Tooting Dan Watkins this week launched a campaign to celebrate and support Earlsfield’s independent retailers in the run up to Christmas. Love your Local has been set up to celebrate the diverse range of independent bars, cafes and shops that Earlsfield has to offer and provide them with some much needed publicity.

Excellent Results for Business Launchpad

As part of the support he gives to the Tooting business community and job creation, Dan Watkins visited the Trident Centre on Bickersteth Rd. At the heart of the Trident Centre is Business Launchpad, the charity founded 25 years ago to help local residents realise their dreams of starting a business.

Dan Watkins, who has been selected by the Conservative Party to fight the Tooting seat in the 2015 General Election, today praised the steps the Government has taken to get the economy back on track.

Two new schools open in Tooting

Rutherford Hall, Balham High Road, and Tooting Primary, Franciscan Road, have welcomed their first students. Both of these schools will bring new ideas and desperately needed capacity to our local community, helping ensure an excellent education for our children. So we wish them well.
