Protesting outside the deteriorating Tooting Lodge

We live in an amazing country where every town and village is packed full of history, but many heritage sites have been at risk of development, particularly as property prices have risen. You can see below some of the projects I have worked with local residents to protect, and as your MP I can do even more of this work in the future.

  • Restoring the Tooting Lodge: I worked with local residents to restore this historic Georgian building and; read more in the Wandsworth Guardian article

  • Saving the Romany scout site: I lead the campaign in 2014 which was successful in raising the funds needed to purchase the site on behalf of the community and save it from development

  • Promoting the Totterdown Estate Conservation Area: setting-up a Residents Association and community projects on the Estate to improve its look and feel

  • Getting the iconic Granada Cinema (now Gala Bingo) on Mitcham Road listed as an Asset of Community Value; it is a Grade I listed building and it needed securing for future generations.

December 2015:

My application to list the Granada Cinema as an Asset of Community Value has just been approved by the Council! Many thanks to all of the residents who signed the petition. Read more here.

October 2015:

Although repair work on the Tooting Lodge is taking place, it is at too slow a pace. Our call for a Complusary Purchase Order (CPO) has been listened to by the Council, which is now initiating the CPO process. In time this would allow the Council to sell the Lodge to a community group or other buyer who would complete the restoration of the building and reopen it to the public. The CPO decision is scheduled for the June 2016 Planning Committee.
