You probably will have seen the dreadful vandalism of Tooting Common that happened last month (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2426877/Tooting-Common-travellers-leave-huge-pile-rubbish-eviction.html). While the council and police are managing the clean-up (and hopefully bringing prosecutions in due course), we thought it would be great to show our support for the common by cleaning up and improving a somewhat neglected part of it, over by the athletics track. As such, Friends of Tooting Common are co-ordinating a morning of planting and litter-picking on Sunday 20th October. The Friends need a couple of dozen volunteers to spare 2 or 3 hours towards this effort so I'm nominating this activity as the Tooting Voluntary Force event for October, to see if we can contribute maybe half of those numbers. Some of you will have attended the Tooting Voluntary Force events in the past, but for those who haven't, all you need bring is yourself, some old clothes and a desire for some exercise! We always manage to have fun - whatever the weather - and I have no doubt this occasion will be no different. As such, we'll be meeting at 9.30pm (a nice early start...) at the Lodge on the junction of Furzedown Road and Furzedown Drive, which is 10 mins walk from Tooting Bec of Broadway tubes. Map below. We'll be continuing til 12.30pm and then going for a drink to (hopefully) celebrate a job well done. So, please let me know if you can make it. If you can only attend for part of the session, that's fine. Do also invite anyone else you know who you think might be interested - the more the merrier! More generally, you can follow the Tooting Voluntary Force and its events at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Tooting-Voluntary-Force/236523159835408
