As your MP I would work hard to support existing voluntary groups and to help residents start up new ones, so that we can improve our environment, help vulnerable people, and build some new skills too.
Through the articles posted on the Campaigns page of this website, you can see the specific initiatives I've been championing, as well as my priorities for the future. But I also think it's important that you understand more about me as an individual, so I've written below a few comments about the kind of person I am.
Get involved at our latest community social action project by helping us with some clearing, planting and general tidying up work at the Wandsworth Nature Study Centre (next to the Common Ground Cafe on Wandsworth Common). What you need:Bring suitable work clothes, sturdy shoes and trousers as we've been told it's pretty brambly at the moment. The centre will provide all the tools and equipment needed and work gloves for volunteers.
Boris Johnson is investing in our local tube network. With the Northern Line running through the length of the Tooting constituency, we have great transport connections that are getting better thanks to the Mayor of London.
St George's is an excellent hospital which almost all of us will have relied upon at some stage. It is also the biggest empoyer in our constituency, with 7,000 local people working there, and is at the forefront of medical care and research.
Local Conservatives have long been campaigning to improve Earlsfield Station. With a business in Earlsfield, Dan knows exactly how important great local transport is for local businesses and restaurants.Dan comments "Working in Earlsfield, I see on a daily basis the great work that has happened recently to improve Earlsfield Station. All of the residents I've spoken to are delighted with the station improvements. The old stairs were difficult for parents with young children, the elderly and disabled, so the lifts have really improved the stations accessibility."
Boris Johnson, Mayor of London, knows that it's bobbies not buildings that solve crimes. While our police should always be accessible to local residents, their main job is to be out on the streets cutting crime. Neighbourhood policing plays a really important role locally and Boris Johnson recognises this. He is more than doubling the number of local Neighbourhood Police officers and the results are paying off, with crime having fallen 20% since 2010.
